Quantifying Hope: Cubs Jump to Nearly 99% Playoff Odds

I have been in the car for about seven hours today after commuting to and from Wrigley to view Ryne Sandberg‘s celebration of life with a bunch of other Cubs fans. It was pretty silly from a practical standpoint, but I felt the need to be there in person. That said, it put a serious crunch on my time and has forced me to skimp on everything.

By winning three of five from the Brewers earlier in the week, the Cubs vaulted themselves into a near-lock for the postseason. Their 98.8% odds are better than any non-division leader at this point, and they’ve got nine West Coast games against teams that are no better than five games under .500 as of this publication. Not that anyone can be taken for granted when the offense has a tendency to disappear.

The highlight of this weekend will be facing Kyle Hendricks for the first time, which should be fun. I hope The Professor pitches well before the Cubs destroy his bullpen, but I’d be fine with him having one of those stinkers where he gives up a bunch of homers. That’s all I’ve got energy for today, folks, sorry for the weak effort.
