Miguel Amaya Exits on Cart Following Apparent Leg Injury
Miguel Amaya was just activated on Tuesday and was back in the lineup on Wednesday for the first time since May 24, but it looks like he will be out again for an extended period. While lunging for first base to beat out an infield single in the top of the 8th, the catcher appeared to have hyperextended his leg before tumbling and landing hard on his back. Amaya could be seen covering his face with his hand while being loaded on the cart and taken off the field.

The mechanism of the injury looked similar to when Bryce Harper hurt his knee after landing awkwardly on first. What appeared to have been a sure ACL tear ended up being a bone bruise, so let’s hope Amaya’s diagnosis is likewise less severe than what a lot of us fear. We’ll update this with more information once it becomes available.
Update: Whew, just an ankle sprain. Craig Counsell said X-rays were negative, but that Amaya will head back to the IL.
