Cubs, Wrigley Field Will Reportedly Be Awarded 2027 MLB All-Star Game
As Bruce Levine reported during the Spiegel & Holmes show on 670 The Score Thursday afternoon, the Cubs and Wrigley Field will be named hosts of the 2027 MLB All-Star game this summer. This comes after several years of being also-rans, but the path has been clear for some time now.

“The commissioner has basically made it very obvious,” Cubs president of business operations Crane Kenney said during Cubs Convention in January. “Fix your security issue, and I’m going to award you an All-Star Game.”
That security issue involved Wrigley’s location in the middle of a neighborhood, specifically the active city streets that could leave the venue open to acts of terrorism. The final hurdle to the ballpark being given the green light by MLB was the lack of bollards, sturdy posts that can stop potentially dangerous traffic. An ordinance introduced at a Wednesday city council meeting would okay the installation of bollards at a cost of $30 million that would be split by the city, state, and the Cubs.
That cost pales in comparison to an overall economic impact estimated to be as much as $300 million from the All-Star festivities. More on this as it develops. That’s a whole lot more revenue than the Cubs generated back in 1990, the last time they served as hosts of the Midsummer Classic.
