Shocker: Roki Sasaki Signs with Dodgers
In what amounts to what is (not) the biggest surprise of the offseason, Roki Sasaki has officially signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Cubs were reportedly eliminated earlier this week, along with most of the teams who were in the running. Jeff Passan reported that the only three teams left were the Dodgers, Padres, and Blue Jays.
While the Blue Jays made some sense, I start to wonder why they are always in the running for good players but never end up landing them. We saw the same thing with Shohei Ohtani, although reports of Ohtani visiting the city of Toronto messed with people’s opinions.
What the Dodgers have built is impressive, but it is also quite frustrating. I’m not angry at the Dodgers, but it’s really more frustration at the rest of MLB for letting this happen. Los Angeles saw an opportunity to win and took it. They’re spending as much money as they want, and it’s clearly resulting in wins. Instead of other teams spending money to try to compete, I worry others will give up and do the exact opposite because they know the Dodgers are a super team and can’t be outspent.
I’ll get into the Cubs implications later, but it’s nice that Sasaki is finally out of the picture. Good for him, but there won’t be a team that is more universally hated this season than the Los Angeles Dodgers.
