Emotional Ryne Sandberg Says ‘Cancer Undetected’ Following Final Treatment Thursday Morning
Ryne Sandberg joined Danny Parkins, Laurence Holmes, and Leila Rahimi Thursday afternoon during 670 The Score’s Cubs for a Cure radiothon to share some fantastic news. The legendary second baseman announced back in January that he had been diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer, vowing to beat the insidious disease. As he shared with the hosts and listeners, that’s exactly what he’s done.
“At 7:45 this morning, I had my last treatment,” Ryno said through tears of joy. “All good…11:30, met my oncologist. He said the tests are great, cancer undetected, very manageable going forward. And that’s the next plan, and just found that out two hours ago. So what a coincidence with this going on.”
An emotional Ryne Sandberg has a wonderful health update to share.
He had his last treatment for prostate cancer this morning, and tests came back “great” with no cancer detected.
“It’s very manageable going forward,” Sandberg says.

Parkins lost his brother, Brad, to glioblastoma last year and has helped to spearhead this fundraising effort as his last hurrah with The Score. He just announced this week that he is heading to FS1 to host their morning show, so Wednesday marked his final turn on the Parkins & Spiegel Show.
Cubs for a Cure is a multiday fundraising effort by the Cubs, Audacy, Stand Up To Cancer®, and American Airlines dedicated to raising funds for cancer research.
