Chicago Cubs @ San Francisco Giants – Series Preview (June 24-27): Overview, Game and Broadcast Info, Starting Pitchers, W2W4

The Cubs’ (37-41) struggles show no sign of ending anytime soon after a series loss to the Mets resulted in a 4-5 record during their lastest nine-game homestand. Inconsistent offense and a leaky bullpen continue to plague the North Siders as they head back out on the road for a two-city trip beginning with four in San Francisco.

The Cubs just won two out of three from the Giants (36-42) for their only victory in a series of three or more games since early May. The G-Men were subsequently swept by the Cardinals in a unique series split between Busch Stadium and the Negro League celebration at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama.

The big issues for the Giants have come from a pitching staff that has allowed 43 runs over the last seven games. Even the Cubs’ scuffling offense was able to score 17 times against them in their three matchups. For a team that has struggled to score themselves most of the season, it’s not a winning combination.

This is a matchup of two squads that are not playing well at all right now. Both teams are running out of time to turn things around if they want to stay in the playoff race and I’m just not sure the Cubs are ever going to come out of this malaise they have been in for nearly two months now. A West Coast trip is rarely the catalyst for a hot streak, but nothing else has helped so who knows at this point.
