Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (3/19/24): DiamondBacks 4, Cubs 1 – Quiet Night for Offense
The Cubs and Diamondbacks played at Sloan Park Tuesday night as spring training heads into the final stretch. There wasn’t much to report for Chicago as Arizona used one big inning to take home the win.
Kyle Hendricks got the start and breezed through the first four frames with no trouble. The Cubs failed to do anything of their own, even with D-backs starter Eduardo Rodriguez being forced to leave the game with an injury before the 2nd inning.
Hendricks ran out of steam in the 5th and Arizona pounced, scoring four runs with back-to-back doubles from Geraldo Perdomo and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. ending his night. Chicago scored once in the 7th but would go down to a 4-1 loss. (Box score)
Why the Cubs Lost
The offense just couldn’t get anything going and Arizona broke through to take a lead they wouldn’t give up.
Stats That Matter
- Seiya Suzuki had a double and a walk as he continues to look great.
- Christopher Morel seems to be feeling more comfortable at third base and his throws to first are much smoother lately.
- Luke Little had two strikeouts in a perfect inning and has an increasingly good chance to make the bullpen out of camp.
Bottom Line
The regular season is less than 10 days away and everybody is ready for the games to start counting. While most people are ready to head north, these are still valuable contests for those trying to fight for the final spots on the roster. Just hold on a little longer, Opening Day is almost here.
On Deck
The Cubs stay in Mesa to face the Oakland A’s at their former home, Hohokam Stadium, on Wednesday at 3:05pm CT. Adbert Alzolay will start the game as an opener and Marquee will provide TV coverage.
