Chicago Cubs Lineup (2/27/24): Happ Leads Off, Triantos at DH, Hendricks Pitching
The Cubs have yet to score a run since agreeing to a new deal with Cody Bellinger, which is all the proof you need that he’s not going to provide the offensive boost people were hoping for. That’s a joke, of course, one that has brought me no small measure of joy as it continues to sail well over a number of heads on social media. Anyway, on with the show.
Bellinger’s deal hasn’t been officially announced as of publication, but the Cubs did clear a spot for him by trading lefty reliever Bailey Horn to the White Sox for righty Matt Thompson. We’ll probably see some other deals, most of which should be more of the procedural variety, as the spring continues.
As for this afternoon’s game, Ian Happ is back in the leadoff spot and playing left field. Dansby Swanson is at short, Christopher Morel is at third, Nico Hoerner is at second, and Mike Tauchman is in center. Yan Gomes is the catcher, Patrick Wisdom mans first, Alexander Canario is in right, and reigning AFL Offensive Player of the Year James Triantos is the DH.
Kyle Hendricks is on the mound for the first time in an official capacity this spring as he faces a Reds team that will counter with Frankie Montas. The lineup was late and the game has already started, so that’s it for this piece.
