Chicago Cubs Lineup (6/14/23): Tauchman Leads Off, Happ DH, Smyly on Mound
This’ll be a quick one because time got away from me, so I’ll just say it’s nice to see a semi-consistent lineup even if the Cubs aren’t fielding all of their regulars. Or at least not the guys we thought would be regulars at this point. Mike Tauchman routinely puts together incredible plate appearances and he’s earned himself the leadoff spot and center field for the time being. Nico Hoerner is at second, Seiya Suzuki moves up to third, and Ian Happ is the DH a day after leaving early with calf tightness.
Dansby Swanson is at short, Christopher Morel is in left, and Matt Mervis is at first. Yan Gomes will handle the catching duties and Nick Madrigal is the third baseman, a spot he figures to handle pretty regularly now that he’s back.
Drew Smyly is on the mound looking to secure the Cubs’ second series win and gain another game on the Pirates. Opposing him is 27-year-old Osvaldo Bido, who is making his MLB debut. The righty hasn’t posted anything better than a 4.53 ERA in the minors since 2019 and he’s shown a propensity to give up both walks and homers, so this could get interesting.
First pitch from Wrigley is at 7:05pm CT on Marquee and 670 The Score.
