Cubs Roster Update: Miley to IL, Leiter Jr. Recalled
Wade Miley was reportedly feeling something in his left shoulder after his latest start on May 22, and now he’s been placed on the IL with what’s being called a shoulder strain. Miley was one of the bigger acquisitions in the offseason for the Cubs but has only pitched in three games so far this season due to an earlier IL stint for elbow inflammation.
Miley was signed to a one-year deal and really could be a nice flip for the Cubs at the trade deadline if he only could manage to get and stay healthy. He’s currently 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA, so that’s certainly something to build off as the season progresses. We’ll just have to see how long this shoulder issue lingers.
Mark Leiter Jr. was recalled from Iowa in a corresponding move to cover Miley’s open roster spot. It’s possible Leiter gets in for a spot start or two, perhaps in more of an opener role which seems to be more suited to his ineffectiveness after one time through the order.
The Cubs placed Wade Miley on the 15-day injured list with a strained left shoulder.
