Report: Ed Howard Heading to IL After Colliding with First Baseman, Slamming to Ground (Video)
As Cubs fans, we’re starting to grow accustomed to all of the bad news being centered around the big league team and all of the good news coming out of the minor league system. Unfortunately, that has just changed. Ed Howard is reportedly heading to the IL with a hip injury after a pretty hard fall last night as he was running to first base.
Source confirms that Cubs shortstop prospect Ed Howard will head to IL with a hip injury. Howard fell awkwardly last night after hustling to first and attempting to avoid a tag. Howard had a 137 wRC+ with a sub-20% K-rate in his last 14 games after a rough start at South Bend.

Here’s a video of the play. You can see Howard is hustling down the line and as he approaches first base the first baseman gets pulled off the bag by the throw. They both collide with Howard flying past the bag and landing very awkwardly.

There’s no word yet on the severity of the injury, which we hope isn’t as bad as it looks. You can assume an MRI will be forthcoming. We’ll let you know when we get more information.
