Nico Hoerner Exits Game After Collision with Umpire (Updates)
It was the top of the 1st inning when Nico Hoerner apparently collided with an umpire in the outfield. Hoerner was running out to cover the cut as the ball flew over Jason Heyward‘s head and bounced off the wall. Jurickson Profar ended up at third, while Hoerner was seen lying on the outfield grass in pain.
Nico Hoerner just went down & appears in pain after colliding with 2B ump during Profar's triple off CF wall.
Appeared Hoerner, who was shifted to 2B side, and the ump, who was in shallow CF, were both watching ball while on move & didn't see each other.
Hoerner's staying in.

We still haven’t seen exactly what happened since no camera angle has surfaced yet showing the collision. Hoerner ended up shaking it off and staying in the game. He proceeded to bat, striking out, in the top of the 2nd inning. He was then removed from the game in the bottom of the inning and Ildemaro Vargas took his position on the field.
We’ll update you as we get more information. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious.
UPDATE 1:
Hoerner’s injury is being labeled as right ankle soreness, which also happens to be what led to Seiya Suzuki leaving early on Monday.
Nico Hoerner exited today's game with right ankle soreness. He will be further evaluated. #Cubs
