Chicago Cubs Lineup (4/1/22, D-backs) – Madrigal Leads Off, Triantos DH, Hendricks Pitching

Kyle Hendricks is making his fourth spring start in this half of a split-squad day and he’ll try to avoid the 1st Inning of Death as he stretches out for what might be the final time before Opening Day. He might get a brief sim start in between, particularly if he’s not starting that first game, but this is almost certainly the last time we’ll see him in Mesa.

Nick Madrigal is at the top of the order playing second base and he’s starting to come around as a table-setter. Seiya Suzuki is again batting second in right, both of which figure to be his everyday spots when the real games begin. Frank Schwindel is at first, Jason Heyward is in center, Patrick Wisdom is at third, and Ian Happ is in left.

Yan Gomes handles the catching duties, Nico Hoerner is the shortstop, and James Triantos puts his perfect average on the line as the DH. The young slugger went 2-for-2 in an earlier appearance and appears to be well ahead of his age and experience when it comes to his competence as a professional hitter, so it’s possible he’ll jump low-A when assignments are announced.

The Cubs will be facing Ol’ Redass himself as Madison Bumgarner takes the bump for the D-backs at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. Since this is a road game, there will be no Cubs coverage on TV or radio.
