Cubs Sign IF Robel Garcia
Jesse Chavez wasn’t enough to satiate the hunger for fan favorite reunions, so the Cubs upped the ante Sunday. Switch-hitting infielder Robel Garcia didn’t have a long journey from Milan to Minsk, but he spent the 2020 season in the Dominican and played for independent Sugar Land and in the Houston organization last year.

The deal isn’t official yet, but it’s safe to say it’s of the minor league/split variety as the Cubs continue to bolster their depth ahead of the first spring game. Speaking of which, the Cubs announced Sunday that they’ve scheduled seven-inning split-squad games against the White Sox at Sloan Park and Camelback Ranch Thursday, March 17 to open the exhibition season.
