Cubs Roster Moves: Adam Morgan Selected, Tommy Nance Recalled, Trevor Megill Optioned, Ryan Tepera to IL, Matt Duffy to 60-Day
The Cubs shuffled the roster yet again after Monday’s implosion, selecting the contract of lefty Adam Morgan from Triple-A Iowa to give the bullpen a fresh arm. Though the former Philly is perhaps best known for surrendering a walk-off grand slam to Jason Heyward in 2018, he’s actually been really effective for the I-Cubs so far. If he can keep up the high strikeout rate with very few walks, he’ll be a nice addition.
Adam Morgan has been arguably the best reliever in Iowa this season.

Trevor Megill was optioned back to Iowa in order to make room on the active roster and Matt Duffy was transferred to the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster. Though the latter move is more procedural than anything, it does mean Duffy will be out until at least late July after initially hitting the shelf on May 23.
Ryan Tepera has been placed on the IL with a left calf strain, which may have occurred when his foot slipped out of the glass slipper he’d been wearing all season. After putting together an incredible scoreless streak that had him looking invincible for over a month, Tepera has allowed seven runs in his last four outings. He and Megill tag-teamed that 10-run 8th inning Monday night, so there’s that.
In order to take the open spot on the roster, Tommy Nance has been recalled to resume his own Cinderella story.
