Robel Garcia, Tyson Miller Lead 11 Cubs Trimmed from MLB Camp

The Cubs made their first round of roster reductions Friday, trimming 11 players to bring the total number to 51 remaining in MLB camp. These players are all still in the organization and some may even appear in a game here or there, so this is all procedural stuff as they whittle down to 26 players for Opening Day.

Infielder Robel Garcia and right-hander Tyson Miller — there was some initial confusion based on the tweet below, but Ian Miller was not part of this action — have been optioned to Triple-A. Righty Manuel Rodriguez and lefty Justin Steele were optioned to Double-A.

Seven more players were assigned to minor-league camp: Righties Jason Adam, Oscar De La Cruz, Caleb Simpson, and Brock Stewart; lefties Tyler Olson and CD Pelham; and catcher Jhonny Pereda.

No surprises here, unless you look through these names and all the others remaining in camp and realize that we’ve heard nothing about outfielder Mark Zagunis. He’s in minor-league camp, just in case you were wondering.
