Watch: 21 Years Ago Today Kerry Wood Struck Out 20 Batters in Epic Performance
Do you remember where you were when you first heard, or saw, that rookie Kerry Wood had struck out 20 batters to tie the MLB record for most strikeouts in a game? I watched that game and remember thinking how set the Cubs were for the future. That didn’t quite translate into World Series titles, but it was still a fun time to be a Cubs fan. Of course, when is it not fun to be a Cubs fan?
Arguably the most dominating pitching performance in MLB history, Wood threw 84 of 122 pitches for strikes while allowing only one hit and no walks. Now that’s fun.
