Chicago Cubs Lineup: Addison Russell Returns, Javy Baez Looking to Stay in the Groove

The Philadelphia Phillies aren’t exactly known as an offensive powerhouse, but if they continue to produce runs like they did last night that may change. With 116 runs scored in 2017, they’re tied for 12th in the league. The Cubs, meanwhile, have scored 124 runs so far this year in route to a 13-12 record.

Yes, the Cubs are tied for first place with the Milwaukee Brewers, while last place Pittsburgh is only two games back. And yes, it’s uncomfortably weird. As the weather warms we’re sure to see the Cubs’ bats start to rake. It’s just that the process of getting to that point has been somewhat painful to watch.

When the Cubs finally won it all, it was kinda like that cute girl you’ve fawned over since second grade finally saying “yes.” Well, you’ve been together for a while now, things are actually normal and suddenly there it is. A big zit right in the middle of her forehead. Do you say something or just let it go away?

Take Joe Maddon’s advice and just let it go away. You’ll thank us latter.

As you’d expect, today’s lineup is pretty similar to those we’ve seen all year. Kyle Schwarber is batting leadoff, followed by Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Ben Zobrist. Javy Baez, who had a good game last night going 2-for-4 while hitting his second home run of the year, will slot in to the ninth spot in the order.

Jon Lester will toe the rubber today looking for his first win of the year. He’s sporting a 3.68 ERA in 2017, which is now the best of the Cubs’ rotation. Brett Anderson did have the best ERA but that was before the first two innings happened last night (recap here).
