CI Recap – Cubs 2, Royals 6: Addison Russell Hits Fifth Spring Home Run
The Cubs offense was largely held at bay Sunday night by the Royals. The lone exception was Addison Russell, who popped his fifth home run of the spring, a line drive that may or may not have ripped someone’s arm off as it zipped onto the grass berm in left field.
David Bote doubled in the bottom of the 9th to drive in a run and that was all for the Cubs scoring.
On the pitching side, Mike Montgomery, Carl Edwards, Brett Anderson and others all got in their work and none of them looked particularly impressive. Of course, by now I’m assuming we all know the line: “it’s just Spring Training.” I know it gets old hearing that — and trust me, it gets old writing it as well — but it’s a reality. Just don’t tell that to the Royals fan who was sitting behind us last night cheering like it was game seven of the World Series. He left happy (box score).
Stats that matter
- Addison Russell continues to have a nice spring: 2-for-3, 1R, 1RBI, HR
- Mike Montgomery had five strikeouts over three innings
Bottom line
The Cubs are 8-11 so far this spring. I can’t wait for games that matter.
