Chicago Cubs Lineup: Hendricks Looks to Punish the White Sox, Fowler Returns to Lineup
The Chicago Cubs (59-39) look to rebound from last night’s tough loss and split the away half of this four game home and away series against the Chicago White Sox in what has been dubbed the Crosstown Cup.
Kyle Hendricks (9-6, 2.27 ERA), who’s been the hottest starting pitcher lately for the Cubs, will take the mound attempting to improve on baseball’s third lowest ERA, behind only Clayton Kershaw and Madison Bumgarner. Pretty impressive for a guy that most people had pretty standard expectations for coming into the season.
It’s a pretty similar lineup player-wise for the Cubs tonight but Joe has moved some players around in the order and on the field too. Ben Zobrist is in at left field with Dexter Fowler – who returns after a few days out and a DH stint yesterday – in center field.
Tommy La Stella will play third base and bat ninth in the order. Kris Bryant gets some rest tonight as he bats as the DH.
Aroldis Chapman was added to the roster today so he’ll be available and ready to go should the Cubs need him. It certainly is exciting to have Aroldis on the team and adding him to this roster really is a brilliant move by Theo and company. Not only do the Cubs get the best closer in the game, but the message that Theo is sending to the guys in the clubhouse is ‘we believe that this is the year to win a World Series.’
I couldn’t agree more.
