The Rundown: Can the Cubs Have Blackhawks-Type Success? Alcantara Heating Up, Schwarber Hits 2 Bombs, Edwards Shaky in Iowa Debut
Congrats to the Chicago Blackhawks on advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals for the third time since 2010. (That’s good.)
It has been a great seven-year run for the Hawks, exactly what we’re hoping to eventually see from this Cubs group.
I actually see a lot of similarities to the current Cubs team and the 2007-2008 Blackhawks. They were a team with young players, in 19-year-olds Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, that you could tell were going to be special.
That team barely missed out on making the playoffs, but have made it every year since — including two (and could three) championships.
Will Kris Bryant and Addison Russell turn out to be the Cubs’ version of Towes and Kane? I’d definitely take it, in addition to making the playoffs for the next seven years.
Rescheduling
Yesterday’s rainout has been rescheduled for Sept. 28 and 7:05 p.m.
The rain may have prevented the Cubs from playing, but it didn’t hamper them from having a little fun:

Other notes
* Arismendy Alcantara has been heating up at Triple-A Iowa. Last night he went 2-for-5 with a home run (his seventh) and two RBIs. It’s good to see him trying to hit his way back up to Chicago.
* Carl Edwards Jr. made his debut for Iowa yesterday, and it was probably an appearance he’d like to forget. In one inning, he walked three and gave up a hit and two runs.
* Meanwhile, Kyle Schwarber continues to mash Double-A pitching. Yesterday he hit home runs 11 and 12, scored three runs, knocked in three and walked once. Can’t wait to see him having these types of days for the Cubs.
* The Blue Jays have signed LHP Phil Coke to a minor-league deal, according to Chris Cotillo. The Cubs released Coke earlier this week.
* The oldest living former Cub, Lennie Merullo, passed away at the age of 98. The Cubs released a statement yesterday.
* The Cubs and Royals will be wearing throw-back uniforms in today’s game: the Chicago Whales against the KC Federal League team, tweets Carrie Muskat.
