Cubs Sign Joe Ross to Minor League Deal
The Cubs signed Joe Ross to a minor league deal on Monday, according to the team’s transaction log.
It’s been a bumpy road for Ross lately, with injuries derailing his 2022 and 2023 seasons. He underwent his second Tommy John surgery in 2022 and returned to a major league mound in 2024 with the Milwaukee Brewers.
He posted a 3.77 ERA in Milwaukee, logging 74 innings after missing another two months due to a back injury. The Philadelphia Phillies signed Ross to a one-year deal worth $4 million but released him on August 26 after he recorded an underwhelming 5.12 ERA over 51 innings.
Ross, 32, joins recently signed Austin Gomber as additional pitching depth in the minor league system. The Cubs have learned this season that it’s never a bad thing to have too much depth.
