Chicago Cubs @ Milwaukee Brewers – Series Preview (May 2-4): Overview, Game and Broadcast Info, Starting Pitchers, W2W4

The Cubs (19-13) won their first series against a divisional opponent in 2025, taking two of three in Pittsburgh. Chicago hit eight home runs in their victories against the Pirates, including three off the bat of Seiya Suzuki. Next, they wrap up their road trip with a journey north to Wisconsin for a three-game set with the rival Brewers starting Friday.

Milwaukee (16-16) did very little to improve their roster in the offseason and it might finally be catching up with them after years of beating expectations. The Brew Crew has hovered around .500 throughout April and looks a lot less formidable than they did in previous seasons.

The Brewers offense has been kind of middling so far with a .692 team OPS and just 27 total home runs. Talented young outfielder Jackson Chourio leads the way with six homers while second baseman Brice Turang has been a good leadoff hitter and plays excellent defense. Christian Yelich is having another rough year, but he is still dangerous, especially when facing the Cubs.

Milwaukee has continued to get solid work from the starting pitching, which has been boosted by the addition of old friend José Quintana. The rotation’s 3.71 ERA is offset by a 4.90 mark from their bullpen, one of the five worst in baseball. This is not the typical Craig Counsell-era Brewers team that would get an early lead and lean heavily on relievers to close it out.

The North Siders have had all kinds of trouble at American Family Field in recent years, which has been a major impediment to them competing for the NL Central crown. This series feels like a major opportunity for the Cubs to really knock Milwaukee back when they are a bit wobbly.
