Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (4/13/25): Cubs 4, Dodgers 2 – PCA Stars in Cubs Series Win Over Dodgers

The Cubs took down the Dodgers in the rubber-match of their series on Sunday night. Great pitching performances and a breakout night from a young star was enough to earn the win.

Los Angeles took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd on an RBI single from Enrique Hernández but spot-starter Colin Rea did a very nice job only allowing the one run. Chicago evened the score against Tyler Glasnow immediately in the 3rd on a solo homer off the bat of Pete Crow-Armstrong.

Michael Busch stayed hot and hit a massive homer to right field to put the North Siders on top 2-1 in the 6th. The Dodgers responded against reliever Caleb Thielbar in the bottom of the frame when Max Muncy chased home the tying run on a sacrifice fly.

Crow-Armstrong put the Cubs back in front with his second solo dinger of the night, a bomb to center against Blake Treinen in the 7th. Nico Hoerner singled home an insurance tally in the 8th to increase the road teams’ advantage to 4-2.

Porter Hodge and Ryan Pressly handled the final two innings perfectly and Chicago got a huge series victory 4-2. (Box score)

Key Moment

The Dodgers had runners on second and third with nobody out in the 6th inning and were only able to score one run. Muncy came very close to homering on his sac fly, and Matt Shaw made a great stab on a line drive from Hernández to keep the game tied.

Why the Cubs Won

The pitching backed up by outstanding defense was able to keep a loaded Dodgers team down for a second consecutive night.

Stats That Matter

  • All you could have asked for from Rea Sunday: 3.2 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 5 K, and 1 BB.
  • PCA tripled in addition to the two home runs, just an awesome game.
  • Busch had a single to go with his dinger and is on fire right now.

Bottom Line

That was very much an unexpected result for the Cubs. I don’t think anyone had them beating the Dodgers in Los Angeles without any of their front line starters, but they did. They are putting themselves in a very good position when the schedule lightens up in May. The only problem Chicago faces now is how to replace the massive hole losing Justin Steele leaves. If they can, they have a chance for a very good 2025.

On Deck

The Cubs head to San Diego for a three-game set beginning Monday at 8:40pm CT. Jameson Taillon takes the hill against Dylan Cease in a contest broadcast on Marquee with a radio feed on 670 The Score.
