Chicago Cubs Lineup (8/9/22): Stroman Pitching, Reyes DH, McKinstry at Third
The Chicago Cubs are looking to win their second consecutive series in a stretch of games that will likely be the easiest of the season. Taking two of three from the Marlins was a good start, not to mention nabbing the first game of the series last night against the Washington Nationals. With a win tonight, the Cubs can take the series.
Marcus Stroman (3-5, 4.00 ERA) has dealt with a lot of adversity this season, fighting through injuries and some ups and downs on the mound. However, he may be in the process of breaking through to become the guy we all thought the Cubs were getting when they signed him in the offseason. Over his last five starts, Stroman has a 1.67 ERA including 23 strikeouts and just six walks over 27 innings pitched.
The Nationals have the 29th ranked offense based on fWAR in 2022. So, it’s very reasonable to believe that Stroman should come out and have his way tonight. And, let’s face it, the Nationals didn’t get any better after trading Juan Soto and Josh Bell, so anything short of a quality start tonight by Stroman would be a big disappointment. No pressure.
Rafael Ortega leads off playing center tonight, Willson Contreras is catching, Ian Happ is in left, Seiya Suzuki is in right, and recently acquired Franmil Reyes is DH. Nico Hoerner is at short, Patrick Wisdom is at first, Zach McKinstry is at third, and Christopher Morel is at second.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm CT from beautiful and historic Wrigley Field, and the game will be broadcast on Marquee Sports Network and 670 The Score.
