Chicago Cubs Lineup (6/17/22): Hoerner SS, Gomes C, Thompson P
The Chicago Cubs are on a 10-game losing streak and I hate to break this to you, but things may not get much better anytime soon. That’s because they start a three-game series today against the ultra-hot Atlanta Braves, who’ve won 14 in a row. And no, that’s not a typo.
Keegan Thompson (6-2, 3.67 ERA) surpassed just about everyone’s expectations when he started the season 6-0 with a 1.99 ERA. His last three starts have been awful, mainly due to issues with location, but now would be a really nice time for him to figure it out and give the Cubs a solid seven or eight innings. That’s going to have to happen if the Cubs have any chance of winning today.
The Cubs lone bright spot this season in the field has been Christopher Morel, he’s leading off playing center today. Willson Contreras is DH, Patrick Wisdom is at third, Ian Happ is in left, and Frank Schwindel is at first. Nico Hoerner is at short, Yan Gomes catching, Jason Heyward is in right, and Andrelton Simmons at second.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:20pm CT and the game will be broadcast on Marquee Sports Network, MLB Network (out-of-market) and 670 The Score.
