Chicago Cubs Lineup (6/7/22): Morel in Center, Heyward in Right, Thompson on Hill
The Cubs travel to Baltimore to take on the Orioles in a battle of two clubs well below .500. This is a series that, on paper, looks like it should heavily favor the Cubs. The Orioles trail the Cubs in nearly every offensive statistical category by a fairly wide margin. The pitching comparison is much closer, which has really been the problem for the Cubs lately, but it feels like they’re set up pretty well with both Keegan Thompson and Marcus Stroman pitching in this short two-game series.
Thompson has been spectacular this season and that’s been regardless of whether he’s coming out of the bullpen or starting. As a starter, Thompson has a 2.79 ERA but he gave up three runs in 5.1 innings in his last outing against the Cardinals. Going up against one of the worst offenses in baseball should be a good boost for Thompson as he looks to get things back on track.
Batting leadoff and playing center for the Cubs tonight is Christopher Morel, followed by Willson Contreras catching, Ian Happ in left, Frank Schwindel at first, and Patrick Wisdom at third. Rafael Ortega is DH, Nico Hoerner is at short, Jason Heyward is in right, and Nick Madrigal is at second.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:05pm CT. The game will be broadcast on Marquee Sports Network and 670 The Score.
