Chicago Cubs Lineup (6/3/22): Cubs Seek 4th Straight Win with Stroman on the Hill, Morel at Second, Rivas at First
The Cubs came into the current homestand with a 7-15 record at Wrigley Field. They opened what looked like perhaps the most daunting week of the season — with nine games in seven days — by dropping a doubleheader. They’ve since gone on to win three straight.
Marcus Stroman (2-4, 3.95 ERA) will be on the mound today against the Cardinals with a chance to make it four in a row for the Cubs. After a rocky start to the season, Stroman has been very good. He boasts a 1.80 ERA over his last five games, giving up just six runs over 30 innings pitched. He’s just 2-2 over that stretch though, with the Cubs scoring just one run per game in the two losses.
The Cubs offense has been picking up steam lately, which may bode well for Stroman today. Since May 9 the Cubs have averaged 5.2 runs per game. The Dodgers currently lead MLB with 5.4 runs per game and the Cubs are averaging 4.45 runs per game over the entire season. For the Cubs, that’s largely due to their cold start which saw them scoring just 103 runs in their first 27 games, or 3.8 runs per game. The Cubs’ bats may be heating up at just the right time.
Christopher Morel leads off playing second, Rafael Ortega is in center, Ian Happ in left, and Frank Schwindel is DH. Patrick Wisdom is playing third, Jason Heyward is in right, P.J. Higgins is catching, Alfonso Rivas is playing first and Andrelton Simmons is at short.
First pitch today is at 1:20pm CT. The game will be broadcast on Marquee Sports Network, MLB Network (out-of-market), and 670 The Score.
