Watch: Video From 2009 Shows Kris Bryant’s Upright, Open Stance
In the conclusion of our interview series with Kris Bryant’s father, Mike, we learned that the NL MVP hasn’t always hit from a deep crouch. In fact, Bryant used to stand more upright, employing an open stance with a noticeable stride. While he was certainly a very good hitter with that setup, Bryant shot into the stratosphere when he widened his stance, ditched the big step, and got lower for better plate coverage.
In the grainy video below, shot in 2009, we see Bryant in his days at Bonanza High School (Las Vegas) hitting a home run to right off of what the description reports as a 93 mph fastball.
Thanks to Craig Blair for the heads-up on the vid.
