Chicago Cubs Lineup (7/27/24): Maybe Don’t Get Shut Out

Remember when I gave up on these lineup breakdowns for a while because the Cubs were playing so poorly that it felt like a complete waste of time? Well, getting shut out in three of seven games since the break and cobbling together just nine runs in that stretch means this team has done nothing to merit deeper dives into pregame previews. It doesn’t even matter who the opposing pitcher is because they’ve been shut down by pretty much everyone they’ve faced lately.

The Cubs have not scored more than three runs since closing the first half with an 8-3 victory over the Cardinals that feels like it was months ago instead of two weeks. They’re now two games behind the Reds — who they face after this series — for last place in the NL Central and they’re 6.5 out of the Wild Card. It’ll be hilarious when they have a fake rally in September to move into third place or something.

With the Olympics underway, there’s got to be something more entertaining to watch than whatever the Cubs will give us tonight. First pitch is at 7:10pm CT on Marquee and 670 The Score.
