Cubs Activate Jeimer Candelario, Option Jared Young
The Cubs have activated infielder Jeimer Candelario from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder Jared Young to the Arizona Complex League. Candelario landed on the injured list on September 12 with a low back strain, prior to which he batted .237 with eight doubles, one triple, five home runs, and 16 RBI in 36 games with the Cubs.
Most of that production came shortly after the deadline because Candelario has been very disappointing over his last 61 plate appearances. Over the course of 17 games, he’s batting .096 with a 29 wRC+ that indicates he was 71% worse than an average hitter in that time. He did hit three homers despite the struggles, so the possibility of a big hit is still in there.
Young hit .205 with three triples, two home runs, and eight RBI in 15 games with the Cubs this season.
